Bombardier / Canadair
Large-scale solar ventilation heating and façade renewal for an aircraft assembly complex.
Montréal, Québec, Canada · 1996 historical installation
← Global projects
Engineering the right source of useful heat.
A site-specific installation or documented project scope, with design versus reported outcomes clearly separated.
The challenge
The Canadair manufacturing complex needed extensive ventilation, improved indoor-air conditions and architectural improvements as part of a major renewal.
The solution
Conserval’s published case describes façade collectors oriented 40° east and 50° west of south, integrated with a canopy and multiple supply air systems. Solar heating and reduced building-envelope losses were considered together.
Published outcomes
The original case reported nearly USD 170,000 annual natural-gas and electricity savings calculated at 1996 prices. These historical values should not be used as today’s payback model.
Integration details.
Two façade orientations with canopy air collection
Blue-grey collector replacing part of building cladding
29 fan and duct air systems connected to the installation
