Toyota Motor Manufacturing France
A solar air heating façade integrated with ventilation at Toyota’s French manufacturing plant.
Valenciennes, France · SolarWall installation
← Global projectsBy reducing fossil-fuel heating demand, this application can contribute to lower Scope 1 emissions. Scope 2 benefits depend on the facility’s purchased energy use. See the project figures above for reported or estimated savings.

The engineering approach, system integration and project outcomes.
The challenge
Toyota wanted to support its sustainable manufacturing programme by reducing conventional heating demand in the production facility while supplying make-up air.
The solution
A 400 m² black SolarWall system was incorporated into the south-facing press shop façade. It preheats incoming ventilation air using solar radiation and connects to the existing ventilation infrastructure.
Published outcomes
Toyota and Conserval projected up to a 9°C temperature increase during the coldest months, energy savings of up to 25% compared with conventional heating, and approximately 20 tonnes of CO₂ reduction a year. The published 2011 case study provides these estimated figures.
